At Pimlico, our vision is to be the underlying infrastructure layer that powers Ethereum's transition to smart contract wallets.

Why does that matter?

Smart contract wallets are a step-wise improvement in crypto user experience, and unlock, among others, the following improvements:

• Gas fee sponsorship
• Payment with ERC-20 tokens
• Payment offchain (e.g. with credit cards)
• Social recovery schemes
• Batched transactions (e.g. approve + spend in the same transaction)
• Spending limits
• Different account access levels

Mainstream Ethereum adoption for the average the person is conditional on widespread adoption of account abstraction. Account abstraction (AA) is the concept of improving the wallet user experience by replacing private keys with smart contract wallets, unlocking the benefits above.

The newest paradigm for AA is ERC-4337, a standard for how smart wallets and adjacent entities operate, co-authored by Pimlico founder Kristof Gazso, Vitalik Buterin, Yoav Weiss, and others. However, for ERC-4337 wallets to succeed, there needs to be adequate infrastructure and tools to unlock their full potential.
